Gizeh Pyramids: Visit the PYRAMIDS

  • However obvious it may sound, it wouldn't be right to leave this activity out on this page. You'll find the famous Khufu ('Cheops') pyramid in Giza, along with a number of smaller pyramids.
The sphinx lies waiting for you to finish admiring those immense triangular buildings.
Entrance fee: EGP20 to enter the site; an additional EGP40 to enter the Khufu pyramid. I've been told there is nothing much to see in there as all the treasures have been moved to the Egyptian Museum.
Note:At the ticket booth locals offer themselves as your personal guide. They say they are legal guides, paid by the government. True, they will tell you interesting things about the pyramids and their history. But after the tour they appear not to be satisfied with the average tip and try to coax more money out of you. Don't give in, a small tip is more than enough!

Egyptian Museum: Visit the EGYPTIAN MUSEUM
  • Tip Rating:
  • This place houses all kinds of relics that show you the different periods in ancient Egyptian history. Among others, it has the treasures found in Tutankhamun's tomb. It may be an idea to visit the museum at the end of your trip, after you've been to all the sites (Valley of the Kings & Queens, pyramids,...).

Admission fee: EGP20 (EGP10 for students)
N.B.: They charge you an extra EGP40 (!!) to visit the Royal Mummy Room - Mummy Room tickets can be bought inside the museum.

  • Walk around in KHAN AL-KHALILI, the bazaar in Islamic Cairo.
A big maze of narrow streets with small shops and coffee houses. The pic shows coffeeshop El Fishawi, very popular with tourists (and with hawkers trying to sell their products to those tourists...).
While you're there, visit the big Al-Azhar Mosque. But ladies, don't forget to cover your heads!
