Lots of hostels you can find in .
The ones I know are the followings:

* Completely AVOID 'Student Inn International Hostel'.
Do not go there because they say:
- 'Free pick up from LAX'. And that is not true. They don’t pick up you. You have to take a shuttle bus (a van) that costs you USD$ 11.00, they say that they will refund you that money. But the thing that they don't say (only when you get there) is. We only refund the whole fare you paid if you stayed 3 nights or more AND if you stay in dorms. I called very soon in the morning and they say that there was a private room for us (me and my girlfriend) and that they would refund the van for us. We got there and we had to wait from 7am until 11am for a room and when they finally decided to talk to us about the refund they said that they would not paid all the money because we would be staying in private room and for only 2 nights. Then when we fought we them and decided to stay there (we were very tired, that’s why), they just raised the price of the room. Of course by that time we fought again and left the place for searching for another place.
- 'Safe, nice, clean'. I haven’t seen safe, neither nice, and no way clean.
- 'Universal Studios only 5 minutes away'. Only if it is by helicopter or airplane. No way going by foot, and by metro with is only one stop away (and the fastest way) you take at least 20 min.

* 'Hollywood International Hostel'.
Free pickups works in the same way that the stupid 'Student Inn' place, but they refund the ticket for private rooms (at least they said that), and they are much nicer.

* 'Hollywood Orange Drive Hostel'
The place we stayed. Nice place, nice people, nice house, nice rooms. Located at the ugly Hollywood but in quite nice place. Located at a quite street just by the Chinese Theatre and Kodak Center.
The prices are: USD$ 40.00 for a double rooms with shared bathroom; and USD$ 46.00 double with bathroom.
They don't refund the van from the airport but at least they were clear about that.

Some lessons we learned in these experiences.
- 'Free pickups in LA' does not work as in Australia (they really go pickup you).
- If you feel that someone is fooling you, probably he is.
