syllybabe's Amsterdam Experience

by syllybabe - last update: Sep 11, 2002

Central Station
I arrived in Amsterdam mid-afternoon on a cold, windy, cloudy day last Feb. 26th. Most flights coming in and going out of Schiphol were at least an hour late due to the fact that only 1 runway could be used.
The 2hr. 20min. flight had so much turbulence on the last 30 mins. that I almost promised myself I was never going to travel again...this week, I mean ;-p!
Amsterdam, though, was worth every second of misery I had on that flight.
It may have been the last stop of this trip to Europe but it certainly didn't disappoint.

Sweeter...The Second Time Around

June 2,2002
Spent 2 fantastic days in Amsterdam this time and my memories are ones that will last a long, long time. There was so much beauty but I left while I was still in a dream state.
The Floriade surprised me. I wasn't expecting much because I originally wanted to visit Keukenhof, but it was wonderful. See my travelogue for pics. If you get a chance to go, do so. It's worth the trip and they will be open til October.
I arrived from Milan on the 29th of May and although my flight out wasn't til the 31st, my visa was only good until the 30th and I was either going to risk staying an extra day or, check in and clear customs by the 30th and wait in Schiphol for my flight. I didn't want to do either but I am lucky I have dutch friends who called immigrations and asked what my best option was and I got the green and go to stay another night to relax.

Its not the cheapes: that's the shelter city in the redlight district and shelter jordan... You'll make the best friends ever... Christain background but not pushy. Downside: curfew at 1 pm and no alcohol inside Roger

Sounds like you had a fun time here! 2:00 isn't such a strange time for a beer - that's how I know I'm on vacation, because I can have a beer earlier in the day! : )
