Thai Massage: Thai Massage and Lake View

  • Favorite Thing: Have a home spa massage. You can choose among several packages such as aromatherapy, royal thai massage, foot reflexology, exfoliating massage, facials, etc. I had a ninety minute aromatherapy massage for 1200 baht...to have one at the Home Garden Spa across the street would be 650 but I don't mind paying the difference to have it done in my room. The uniformed masseuse comes with a basket with all you'd need to transform your bedroom or living room into a home spa....a mat, robe, oils, aroma jar and candles, cd's of soothing thai music, etc.

Fondest Memory: We get this view every night from the apartment where we stayed. After a massage, a cup of ginger tea, and totally relaxed company, the busy traffic and scorching heat of the city becomes bearable.

Chao Phraya River: The Chao Phraya River

  • Favorite Thing: We chartered a longtail boat for 800baht and went up and down the Chao Phraya River. If you ride on the ferry that regularly plies the river, you won't get to see how the thais live on the river but we got to see some of that when our boat went into one of the klongs and took us the "back" way.

Fondest Memory: In the picture you will see one of the vendors on boats in the river that sell little souvenirs and cold drinks.

  • Damnoen Saduak's Floating Market
  • by syllybabe
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Favorite Thing: There are many floating markets in and around Bangkok but we insisted on going to the famous one in Damnoen Saduak.

Fondest Memory: I would have enjoyed it more if I had a hat and I was prepared for the heat with sunblock but since I wasn't, I was in the boat but anxious to get out of the hot sun. Most people we saw hired a motorized boat but we wanted a rowboat so we could go slow and take pictures. I'm glad we did. Motorized boats, although faster, are also noisy. The best part was buying fruit and food from the vendors in their own boats, too. We had coconut pancakes (yummy) and noodle soup, pomelo, sticky rice cooked inside bamboo. I would do it again...and if you get a chance to do it, don't miss it.

    General Tips: Golf

  • Favorite Thing: We were traveling with two friends who weren't photo enthusiasts like we are so they ended up doing business while playing golf at Pinehurst...just one of so many golf courses in sunny Thailand.

Fondest Memory: On our way home from Ayutthaya we picked them up at around 5pm and we had a chance to watch the sun go down behind the palm trees.

    Eating: Street Food
  • Tip Rating:

  • Favorite Thing: You can never go hungry in Bangkok. Everywhere there's street food. I asked my friend if it was safe to eat what they cook in the streets and she said, "Oh yes...for some reason, Bangkok street food is clean. I don't know why and how that could be, but it just is." I believe her.

Fondest Memory: The woman in the pic was drying and flattening squid and cuttlefish and was enjoying our curious interest in her that she even turned around to pose for this pic.

  • Favorite Thing: When taking photos, try changing your views and perspectives by going up the steps of some of the monuments. This photo was taken from the steps of the main prang in Wat Ratchaburana.

  • Ratchaburana's main prang as seen

  • Favorite Thing: While walking around taking pictures in Wat Mahathat, this temple came into view. It looked so interesting from where we were (and near) that we thought we could just walk to it...NOT. That temple in the distance is the main prang of Wat Ratchaburana...which happens to be my favorite temple in Ayutthaya.

Ayutthaya: My favorite Wat in Ayutthaya

  • Favorite Thing: Even from afar the Khmer type tower of Wat Ratchaburana looked imposing and beautiful in its intricacy. Up close, it didn't disappoint.
The two chedis were built by Chao Sam Phraya in memory of two brothers who fought and died in battle for the throne after their father passed away.
If I'm not mistaken, that's Garuda carved in the corners of the tower.

  • Coupons for food at MBK
  • by syllybabe

  • Favorite Thing: MBK is a shopping mall where you can find just about a little bit of everything. In their food court, the most amusing thing to me was buying food with coupons. First you choose what you want to eat from any of the stalls and determine how much coupons you need to pay for your food. Any coupons you have left after you're done, you can go to another booth to exchange it for cash. I think unused coupons that don't get changed for cash is a great revenue generator for the mall. Cool concept though.

    Attractions-Wats: Have fun!

  • Favorite Thing: While taking photos at Wat Lokayasutharam, there were Japanese tourists taking photos as well. After getting annoyed for a few mins because they just wouldn't move away from the reclining buddha long enough for others to snap pictures without people in them, I decided to take photos while some of them were having fun and posing like the buddha. Annoyance turned into total amusement as we watched these four having fun in the sun.
