I have lived in this small mountain for 12 years, and excpet for the occasional bite of the travel bug, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Durango (and the surrounding area) is the perfect place to visit to forget about the city for a time. The nearest large city, Albuquerque, is more than three hours away by the fastest route, Grand Junction is more than four hours away, and Denver is over a seven hour drive through the mountains. But it is not the physical separation from cities that people find most appealing. The small town atmosphere gives people a mental break from noise, traffic, crime, pollution, and other big city annoyances. |
