Þingvellir are known as the Parliamentary Plains. In 930, the world's first parliamentary government was created in Iceland and Þingvellir was declared as the site of the assembly or parliament, the Alþing. Nowadays, it is a national park at the point of junction between the American and European tectonic plaques. |
