"At the heart of the archipelago" Stockholm by bzh
Stockholm Travel Guide: 5,179 reviews and 9,293 photos
Stockholm is located in a very unusual setting. It has been built on a spot where the main landmass of Sweden starts breaking up to form an archipelago that opens into the Baltic sea. As a result, water is omnipresent in Stockholm and small and big boats can be seen moored all over the place.
At the centre of Stockholm is a small island called Gamla Stan, the old city. This is the traditional and historical centre of the town. The Royal Palace and some of the most scenic monuments are located there.
- Pros:Superb town, not too large, with water everywhere
- Cons:Very cold in winter
