"Capital of the Dukes of Burgundy" Dijon by bzh
Dijon Travel Guide: 185 reviews and 444 photos
Dijon is at the heart of Burgundy (Bourgogne), one of the most prolific wine producing regions of France. This is where the Dukes of Burgundy used to have their court, when the region was independant. The old palace is still there and is one of the main buildings to visit while in the town.
Burgundy, and in particular the Côte d'Or département is famous for its roofs made of coloured tiles arranged in geometric patterns. The best example of this is the hospice in Beaune but Dijon has quite a few very nice examples.
Dijon is an old city. It was already a major economic centre in Roman times and has had a major role in the shaping of France. It is now a medium size provincial town but it has kept many buildings and artefact from the past to remind visitors of its history. Walking the small streets of Dijon can feel like stepping back in time.
- Pros:The beauty of the town, wine and food
- Cons:It can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer
- In a nutshell:Great food, great wine and centuries of history

Now I pity that didn't take the picture of that beautiful tiled roof near the Notre Dame, but alas! However my most vivid memory of Dijon is a one night excessive tasting of kir and pancakes, fortunately no mustard tasting was included!
Merci beaucoup, Bruno, for this page!!!! :-) Dijon is so beautiful..... I'm eager to visit it very soon.....
