Vermont is green in summer, white in winter, and has a spectacular fall foliage season. Spring is short and full of mud when the snow melts. THe state is dominated byt the Green Mountains, from which the state takes its name. Despite its small size, Vermont has a fair amount of cultural diversity and lots upon lots of stuff to do. Throughout the year there are food festivals, fairs, music events and many other fun things. The many glacial lakes and hydroelectric-power reservoirs offer world-class fishing. Vermont is famous for its dairy industry, and is home to Cabot Cheese and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. Maple syrup is an important Vermont product, and when it is made every March, sugar-on-snow parties are held. Everyone (at least in the Northeast Kingdom) seems to have a snowmobile except me, and I intend to change that soon. :-) Vermont is bordered on the north by Quebec, Canada -- a delightful place to visit and very old-world charming. Vermont is among the more progressive American states, having a civil union law which allows couples of the same gender to marry and enjoy many of the same legal benefits.
