Memphis is a southern city, and as such tends to be a bit smaller than the northern variety. Necessarily, that means a correspondingly smaller number of tourist attractions, but note that even the northern cities up the river like Chicago or Saint Louis don't necessarily have a whole lot of touristy things either. Like any other city, in Memphis, you have to find what interests you and then try the barbecue! |
| | The Mighty Mississip Memphis is a river town, and the people who live in memphis are conscious of the Mississippi River in the same way Chicagoans are conscious of Lake Michigan or Seattleites are conscious of Puget Sound. At this point downriver the breadth of the river is really quite large, giving it the look and feel of a long lake. |

I didn't see the Jefferson Davis Memorial :-(. Panhandlers on Beale? They had to come to town after my visit last year. |
