Not Amsterdam, Amstelveen A wise man (OlafS) once told me that Amsterdam is the face the Netherlands chooses to show the world. I think he's basically right and I'm happy to say, that if you want to see more of the Netherlands and less of Amsterdam, you needn't go far. Amstelveen is a ten minute drive away and is something of a bedroom community. Its a pleasant change of pace from Amsterdam and is much more laid back. If you'd like to see how the Dutch live, I recommend it. (and the mussels at Hotel Abina) You can take your time looking through small shops, see things at a slower pace, and save money compared to A'dam. |

| Pros: | "Its off the beaten path" | | Cons: | "Its on the borderline of the public transit area" | | In A Nutshell: | "When you need to get out of A'Dam" |
