As you drive into Vianden, the first thing you will see is the castle and then you will know that its the heart and soul of the town. This is a truly impressive fortification that somehow or other, despite the renovations and fresh paint, seems to remain just so "functional". Something about its layout really does give you the idea that, unlike a lot of others I've seen, this one was really a military fortification that was dead serious. When you go in here there are displays and they are still renovating, but everything is well done. Sadly enough, Dutch and German are the posted languages with only some small amounts of English and French. |

Dabs Sun Sep 10, 2006 23:12 UTC Hey Dave, we stopped by Vianden on our way out of Luxembourg and indeed it was impressive! Thanks for letting me know about it :-) | Kate-Me Wed Aug 18, 2004 09:43 UTC Never heard of this place, but boy! am I glad I stumbled across your page! Fantastic castle. | Confucius Wed Jan 7, 2004 06:30 UTC I like the distinct vivid colors of the castle's chapel. They are not the normal hues one sees painted inside a church. | tini58de Sat May 17, 2003 09:38 UTC Outstanding pictures of a very impressive castle, Dave! Wonderful page! |
