Mississippi River ferry, Modoc - Ste. Genevieve MO

This small ferry only costs four dollars to use and can handle four to eight vehicles at a time. I would have to say it is the smallest car ferry I have ever been on, consisting of a barge and tugboat. There aren't stay in your car rules or lessons in using a life preserver. It is a small, country ferry that takes you across the river at a point where there aren't any bridges.

The Great River Road

The Great River road is a group of highways that parallel the Mississippi River, covering a lot of history and culture from some of the earliest days of settlement. Brown highway historical signs are interspersed with small towns and interesting things to see. This isn't as classic as the histoporic Route 66. it is more along the lines of the Circle lake tours. Other routes are the Lewis & Clark Trail, and the Lincoln something or other. Follow these signs to stay on the Great River Road.
