Mail Boats Boats Review

You can actually travel around the Bahamas by Mail Boat. They have a horrible reputation for punctuality and generally just aren't used, but you can do it for a pretty good price. Other than the mailboat, your option for inter-island travel is pretty much limited to air. There is one high speed ferry that hits two or three main islands, but costs as much as a plane ticket. The mailboats aren't quite speedy either, as you can tell by the times shown in the schedule above.

General driving conditions Rental vehicle Review

just in general, traffic on the main streets in Nassau and on the island as a whole moves very quickly and bumper to bumper. People from larger US or European cities shouldn't have a problem coping with this, but Australians, Californians and people from smaller cities where the pace is slower should be ready for a challenge.

The Bahamas drives on the left, but that doesn't mean you will necesarily be getting British style cars, with the steering wheel on the opposite side. You could get one, but many more cars are in the American style, and the toll booths are built to accomodate them, not the British makes.

Gasoline is very expensive by American standards. When I was there, the price had come DOWN to $3.45 a gallon

Water Taxi - Nassau

Water Taxi

Water Taxis Boats Review

If you are sightseeing in Nassau and staying on Paradise Island, they have a small water taxi service. For $3 they take you to the marina where it should be a short walk to the major hotels. The reverse trip takes you to the quay wall near the straw market. The only problem with this is that the boat won't leave until its pretty full, so look for one that already has quite a few people aboard. They run until six.
