  • There are a few options re accommodation in Karak to be found round the castle or one or two places on the King's Highway (but which are a long way out of town). None of the central places are that appealing, but arguably the best of an unexciting bunch is the Government Guest House. Built virtually into the rock face and part of the castle complex, the hotel commands spectacular views across the valley. Its clean, all rooms are en-suite. Nothing more, nothing less. Pretty basic stuff but perfectly acceptable place to stay overnight.

Unique Qualities: Great views (as long as the wind allows you to open the shutters!)

  • OK - so for one night only, total indulgence. Designed along the lines of a traditional local village, two rooms to a building, 4-6 buildings sharing a common courtyard. Restaurants galore (Italian, Mongolian, Middle Eastern with belly-dancing, as well as snacks and European room service. Two swimming pools, private beach, extortionately expensive 'Dead Sea Products' spa, fantastically comfy rooms etc.. Indulgence? Abso-bloody-lutely. Cocktail in hand, watch the sunset over the Dead Sea and see the twinkling lights in the distance of the Palestinian Authority and Israel - Jericho, Jerusalem, Bethlehem.

Great adventure and wonderful descriptions. As expected, the weather always seems to be great in that area.
