If you want a fairly lazy time lying on beaches, occasional surfing or diving and hanging out in cafes, bars and restaurants, Byron Bay is perfect for this. In spite of its reputation as a major holiday destination, its a pretty low-key place minus the development of its counterpart just an hour's drive north across the state border in Queensland (namely the Gold Coast).
It has a reputation as something of a 'hippy' hang out, which is reflected in the laid back, lack of development environs, but the reputation is based as much on reputation than reality. There's plenty of 'alternative' attitude, but its just as popular with the surfies and families wanting a low-key, stress-free holiday. There is the massive Byron Bay Blues Music Festival though, that takes over the place over the Easter long weekend. And along with the alternative lifestyle, there's the town of Nimbin which certainly adds to Byron's attractions for some (see 'Things To Do').
But the real beauty as far as I'm concerned of Byron is to explore the surrounds. Sea and coastal scapes are extraordinary, no question. But the immediate hinterland is lush green farmlands of rolling countryside with a fabulous backdrop of mountains and rainforests.

hey great tips and nice shots ,personally i like the surrounding areas of byron also ,the moo moo cafe is a classic ive only stopped for fuel and it was pricey ,will check it out next time :)
