Vinales is a small town to the west of Havana in the tobacco and fruit growing region of Pinar del Rio. Lying in the valley of the Sierra de los Organos, the surrounding landscape is distinctive and stunning - steep-sided limestone mountains known as mogotes rise suddenly from the flat valley floor. Distinctly agrarian, the town itself is a pleasant if undistinguished town, but a great location to explore the surrounding countryside - and then there's the Hotel Los Jazmines to base yourself in with the great pool and dramatic views. |
| | Vinales is 25km north of Pinar del Rio, the main town of the region. The drive between the two is stunning, although look out for every farmyard livestock imaginable potentially wondering onto the road (as well as non-farmyard livestock!!) |

b1bob Wed May 30, 2007 15:07 UTC Great tips and pics. I hope to be among the first Americans to visit a free Cuba. | mircaskirca Fri May 25, 2007 08:33 UTC Ah, the landscape of Vinales is really stunning! Beside Baracoa, it was my favourite place in Cuba. I enjoyed horse riding on the country side, cycling to the caves and mural but unfortunately haven't ben on caye Jutias. | Helga67 Mon Nov 7, 2005 20:26 UTC Good info about this beautiful region.
