Nassau Things to Do

Fort & Water Tower: Fort Fincastle
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tiny 18th century fortress built to protect all and sundry, it was never tested out (and by the size of it, probably a good job!). Alongside it is the Water Tower, the tallest building in New Providence (built in 1928) and which provides the best views over Nassau (and Fort Fincastle).

    Nassau Town: Walk the streets
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nassau itself is not the most exciting of towns, there being little in terms of 'stand outs', but a few hours strolling the streets reveals colonnial Caribbean at its simplest.

Boats & Water Sports: Orange Hill Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • With the exception of locals walking their dogs, we had this beach to ourselves. 8 miles outside Nassau, 3 miles from Cable Beach. A few small hotels or bars along the road.

Boats & Water Sports: Arawak Cay
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • West of Nassau on the edge of town on the way to Cable Beach, is the small beach area of Arawak Cay. Not the prettiest of beaches, but likely to be fairly deserted as its the furthest beach in Nassau itself away from Paradise island.

    Nassau Town: Government House
  • Tip Rating:
  • Pink colonnial dominates as already mentioned - from the main government house to many of the public buildings dotted round town.

    Nassau Town: Ruins
  • Tip Rating:
  • There's a lot of money on the Bahamas (a lot of poverty too) - best indicated by this old colonnial ruin. Its been abandoned for years - and outside was the wreck of an E-Type jag!

    Nassau Town: Colours
  • Tip Rating:
  • Away from the pink of the colonnial public buildings are the homes of Bahamaians - a striking and colourful environment.

Loved your pages. Very interesting and informative. Have spent a lot of time in Nassau and agree with your comments on Atlantis.

Agree with you about Atlantis, hotels like that should stay in Cancun and Benidorm! Did you know it was built by a S African?
