Colourful Bokaap Homes - Cape Town

Colourful Bokaap Homes

Colourful homes, Friendly people Bo-Kaap Review

It was Tweede Nuewjaarsdag, Jan 2nd, 2008, no longer a public holiday.
We'd forgotten and tried to go Zerbans @ the Garden Centre for Breakfast.
The attempted traffic's eastern diversion resulted in the familiar Kaapse Klopse (Cape Town Minstrels)music.
So park the car and join the crowds on the old forshore to watch the colourful groups parading from the Castle via Adderley and wale Streets up to the Bo Kaap.
["Our songs come from our forefathers and their fathers before. They were oppressed when they came. They came here as slaves you know and they were always the oppressed and so the only way they could express themselves was putting it in words, singing, dancing, making music and being jolly. So that the next one would think we are happy. In the meantime we are expressing our feelings about certain things"]*

Be prepared - the past is the future & vic-versa

South Africa as known to most people outside the continent
has it's historical links with the Portuguese
then the Dutch
and English,
the French and Germans,
as did the Italians, Polish
etc etc etc

Afrikaans was and stil is a main LAnguage in the country
post 1995 , democratic RSA
but
do some online reading before visiting
amongst the many links i have coem across,
the following is an interesting one from the History of Malaysia
and they call the VOV - Dutch East India Company
the first multinational

we also know that Jan van Riebbeeck established Cape Town
as the refreshemnt point for the VOC ships travelling
between Holland and Batavia
the ship were all built in Batavia

Sanlam Bldng in the left - Cape Town

Sanlam Bldng in the left

Sanlam Centre, Adderley street Cape Town CBD Review

When the grounds were being excavated for the shps/tower complex, the original fresh water canal at the old waterfront was found:
the developers in conjunction with histoico-archaeilogist porcceded with architects to save the site and incorporate into building.

It is interesting to note that all the land and buildings north of this buisling to the water edge are man made.- thus the tern "Foreshore"

Address: Adderley street opposite the Station
