Nightlife Spot: Turbine Hall

From the M1 we used to see the Newtown Market, concrete Cooling Towers, John Vorster Square,
but if you're driving e-w in Jeppe Street or w-e on Bree street, the Turbine hall is very visible because of the size, red bricks and mutipe tiered roof with windows.

after the implosion of the concrete towers, various architectural and urban planning groups tried getting more life into the area,

unfortunately the "migration" away from the City Centre core during the mid 90's, it was a matter of "Naugt for your Comfort"
this included the Johannesburg Stock Exchange from Diagonal Street to Sandton, alas, Firstrand and Standard both have their Headquarters nearby.

Interestingly, some who know Jo'eys / JoBurg will know the term of being a Graduate of University Newtown ;-)))

just west is the Oriental Plaza for food and shopping.
