PERPISAHAN AGUNG
[our last enchanting farewell]

Ketika tembakan salvo memecah hening rembang petang
Bersamaan petimu perlahan turun
Berpayung sang Merah Putih
Kami di sini memaknai
: Inilah perpisahan agung kita, Papa
dalam tempo tanpa satuan waktu
[whenever the salvo guns tear the emptiness of an afternoon sky
according your coffin slowly moving down to the motherland
below our national flag, the red and white
we’re here understanding completely
: this is our last goodbye, Papa
forever and ever after, with undefinited time to meet each other again]

Dari Acapulco hingga Guam
Dari Tanjung Pinang sampai Ambon
Kemana kapalmu berlayar
Kepada siapa engkau berbakti
[from Acapulco to Guam
from Tanjung Pinang to Ambon
to wherever your ship will sailing away
to whom you dedicated your life]

Di sini kami berdiri
Pada sebuah dermaga
Saat mana para putra-putrimu melambai bangga
Menyaksikanmu dalam parade
: Sailing Pass
[we’re here standing
in a harbour
whenever your children waving proudly
watching you in a parade
: the sailing pass]

Hingga tiba pada suatu ketika
Kami kembali melambaikan tangan
Tapi untuk melepasmu pergi selamanya
Pada keluasan samudra milik Allah
Berteman bulan dan bintang gemintang
: Lentera di langit malam
[until the time to come
we’re here again to waving you
but this is for the last time
to attending your enchanting farewell
let you sail to the ocean of Allah’s
companied by moon and the stars
: lanterns in the night sky]

“Mrene Ngger, tak aras dhisik” Ke sinilah Sayang, agar Papa bisa mencium dahimu dulu
: Tak akan ada lagi kalimat itu buat selamanya
[“come here my beloved children, let your Papa kisses your forehead before you go”
: this words will never be heard again by us]

Kami rindu peluk dan ciummu
Pa, cintamu adalah segala
Tatapanmu adalah semangat
Dan senyummu adalah penyejuk jiwa
Selamat jalan, Papa
Datanglah keharibaan semesta
[we miss your hugs and kisses
Pa, your love is everything
Your vision is a support
And your smile is something comfy our souls
Goodbye Papa
Let your soul floating in the universe]

So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
Or to be loved as to love

note: counting the days for a year ... dad's passed away and all i need as his only daughter is to say, "you'll be happy in heaven, dad and i always love you and i pray for you, everywhere i go."
My Dad, USS Rohrbass - Hummingbird by Leon Canyon

When the story begins ....

Once upon a time in Surabaya, one of a harbor city in Indonesia. In a kewl home near a beach called ‘Pantai Kenjeran’. A daughter asking to her Daddy.
Endut: Rama (pronounced as 'Romo’, taken from Javanese language. Means Daddy, Father, Da –-in terms to addressed him very politely), where’s Riga? And why you have to go there?
Rama: my luvly Chubby Cheeks, it’s located on Latvia. Rama will going there to pick up the ship.
Endut: are all harbours kewl, Rama? Can you named another harbours that you’d ever seen?
Rama: Sure. Every places has their own uniques. Okay ... Sevastopol, Wolgast, Szczecin, Alexandria, Tanjung Pinang, Ambon and so many.
Endut: Oh, I know, Rama. That’s why your big map in our livingroom full of color pins. To remember every place you’d ever seen.
Rama: Smart girl. Love you so much.
Endut: Is it nice to go abroad ev’ry time, Rama?
Rama: Yes. Very interesting, many challenges and we can meet new people. Like we open windows and see the beautiful views in early morning.
Endut: but is that the reason why you can’t accompany Mum when she gives me birth in June?
Rama: Oh putriku sing dak tresnani tenan [oh my baby, sweetheart daughter] , at that moment I was in Maryland, then Norfolk and pick-up the ship; USS. Hummingbird --we called her now as ‘KRI Pulau Ampalasa’. But you know me; even we can not be together at that moment, my spirit is always be with you and Mum and the whole of our family members. And we will never ever be apart.

That’s a nice conversation about Endut -my nickname, means ‘cool-fatty girl-chubby cheeks' —- and his Daddy which always mirrored me in the future. I was 4 at that moment and remember very well, how Rama telling me about his views; travelling as windows to see the world.
I graduated from university with major in Oceanography, because I think the oceans and the seas will bring me to the new world. Then I try to join Navy, like my Daddy. But at the same time, I realize, being a Journo (journalist) seems cool. Very interesting, because I can find my new world too. Meet new people, interviewing, investigating, picturing and ... Travelling!

And, here I am. Continuing my life at my second hometown also building my VT pages. I keep hoping and do believe that new places will still waiting for me. As I do enjoy my life :)
Welcome to my world ... Please enjoy my pages in English and Indonesian versions.

>>TENTANG-TENTANG <<

(for my beloved Rama)

Tentang pengembara
Tentang para pelaut
Yang melayari keluasan samudra
Menemui arus, gelombang, dataran dan pulau-pulau
Senantiasa baru

Pada mereka para petualang
Yang melayari keluasan cakrawala
Menggarisbawahi langit
Memaknai keingintahuan
Mengabaikan perjalanan sang waktu

Merancang perjalanan
Menjemput mimpi-mimpi
Tak berkesudahan
Tanpa ujung

Dan merangkumnya dalam bingkai kenangan
Karena merekalah sang petualang
Seperti aku mengambang
Dalam semesta
Arungi keindahan dunia

>> ON THE JOURNEY << [translation from poem above]

(for my beloved Rama, april 23rd 1941 - february 19th 2007. i love you, wherever you are)

On the journey
A narrative about the sailor
Sail, sail alongside the wide ocean
Fight the stream
Conquers the wave, the terrain, and the island
Which always brand new
All the time

For those the journeymen
Sail, sail alongside the wide of the horizon
Underlining the sky
Find the sense of the curiousity
While ignoring the time passes by

For those the journeymen
For those who figure the journey
Picking the dreams up
Never come to an end
Endlessly

For they are the journeymen
Compile it into the frame of memories
Floating like I am
Sailing in the beauty of the universe

LONG JOURNEY DAY'S INTO NIGHT

by Eugene O'Neill (1888 – 1953)

I was set free! I dissolved in the sea, became white sails and flying spray, became beauty and rhytm, became moonlight and the ship and the high dim-starred sky! I belonged, without past or future, within peace and unity and a wild joy, within something greater than my own life, or the life of man, to LIFE itself!
The Brodjokaloso family, taken 1923
