  • Favorite Thing: Filipinas. It was the name given by 16th century Spanish explorers to two Islands in the midst of an emerald string of isles studding the westernmost rim of the Pacific Ocean. The named as coined in honor of Crown Prince Philip of Spain who ironically never saw nor set foot on any of the coveted 7,107 isles that eventually were all called Philippines of Pilipinas. Then as now, blessed with a temperate climate, sprawling beaches, incomparable coral gardens, spectacular sunsets, pastoral lands and a warm, hospitable people.

  • Favorite Thing: the pearl of the Orient Seas…and where Asia wears a smile…

Filipinos have long been noted being a smiling people. A native person of my country is quick to burst into song. We Filipinos are of such sunny disposition/ character and we have our own lively sense of humor. And that Philippines was concerned, the people, more than the scenery perhaps. It is best resource to manage their smile through it all.

  • Favorite Thing: Culture of the Filipinos
Like most Asians, the Filipino is greatly attached to their family, are clannish, and hold their elders in high esteem or obeisance. Hospitable and generous to their fault, and will spend their last peso to feed and entertain a guest in their home.

    Languages
Official languages are Tagalog, English and Spanish, with some 87 dialects spoken in the country. Filipino is the national language but English is the key medium for professional transactions. The old elite speaks Spanish.

    Religion
Filipinos is deeply religious in a ritualistic and folksy way. Today, Filipinos are primarily Catholic in a way that delicately combines the old methods of relating to some of supernatural beliefs.

  • Favorite Thing: Our roads and highways are dotted with stalls selling local produce and handicrafts, often at bargain prices. As a general rule, produce sellers will not lower their prices significantly or depends on the season of product, though handicraft seller may offer you big reductions. The correct term to use when asking for a price reduction is to ask for %sr”tawad”%s*(discount). Always remember the prices are already far lower than you will find in the markets, supermarkets and handicraft stores in Manila.
