Florence... what can I say. Gorgeous city, full of history. Definately take the time out of your stay to visit the museums- though I'll have to warn you, La Academia, which houses Michaelangelo's 'David' can get a bit crowded- so be there in advance. We happened to be in Florence on the day that the leader of Italy's Labor Party was assasinated- thus resulting in the closure of the museum for a 'mini strike' of sorts. When it was re-opened at 1 that afternoon, there was a mob waiting outside pushing to get in. Quite the experience! Later that afternoon- a rally sponsored by the Communist and Facist parties of Italy took place outside the building made famous by the balcony scene from the movie, "Hannibal".

These are not the original doors of the baptistry, but a replica. The original doors can be found in a museum located not far from the Duomo.
