Cancun is a relatively new resort having been created in the 1970’s. Apparently the Mexican government used a computer to select an ideal location for a new resort and it came up with Cancun. Cancun at the time was just a strip of sand and deserted jungle on the Quintana Roo coast of the Yucatan peninsular. Cancun is also L shaped and is connected to the mainland by just a narrow strip of land.
Cancun is divided in the downtown area and hotel zone. In the downtown area you will find a variety of shops, boutiques and markets and the hotel zone is just what it says it is. The hotel zone extends 19kms with the Caribbean sea on one side and a lagoon on the other and there are any number of hotels to choose from.
Cancun has things to offer a wide variety of people ranging from water sports, scuba diving, and swimming with the dolphins. The beaches are perfect and the sea is an amazing shade of blue
There are lots of restaurants to choose from-you can eat in a different one every night of your stay. For the party people, the nightlife area seemed to centre round the Hard Rock café area where there are night clubs with special offers to tempt you in and dance the night away.
Cancun isn’t typically Mexican but more like how I imagine some US resorts to be-you will however see something more Mexican if you go further a field and visit some of the surrounding area. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I hope to return
