No, not Venice, but a canal in Hamburg
People say that Hamburg has more bridges than Venice. Well, I heard this sentence about a lot of cities. E.g. Berlin and Amsterdam also have more bridges than Venice. I guess, that's just because the old part of Venice with its canals is much smaller than the other cities mentioned.

Hamburg is the 2nd largest city in Germany with 1.7 million citizens. And there are watersheds everywhere in town. As a big river you have the Elbe. Than there is the Alster which is split up into the lake-like Binnenalster (Inner Alster) and Aussenalster (Outer Alster). Numerous canals and small rivers connect those rivers and cut through the city.

Hamburg - as a city with that much water - is well-known for its traditional fish market (starting at 5 am on Sundays), the huge port, the professional soccer clubs HSV and FC St. Pauli and the Hamburger Dom, a huge fair. But there is a lot more to see. Just check out the my tips on Hamburg...

Pros:"lots of parks, lots of water, great nightlife"
Cons:"often windy and rainy, expensive"
In A Nutshell:"Moved there Feb. 2003 and left in October 2003 - but still love the city!!!"

Those tunnels sure beat having to brave the elements at this time of year, not to mention the traffic any time of year. I wish Paris and Rio had this kind of tunnel system.
