I stayed in Indianapolis for one night on my way from Cincinnati to Chicago. I was really impressed by the city. Clean, modern and friendly - that was how I experienced Indianapolis. Before I went there the only image I had was car racing. The Indy 500, the Formula 1 Grand Prix. That is what Indianapolis is famous for. When I went there I didn't even see the race courses. But I saw other things I liked. The downtown area is charming. The historical state capitol and the War Memorial are welcome contrast to the modern skyscrapers. Indianapolis has about 780,000 citizens. It is the nation's 12th largest city.
Especially during the late 1990s Indianapolis has gone through a dramatic revitalization and a stunning renaissance period that makes it a different place than it was before. Indy is the perfect balance of big-city style and small-town charm that makes it a successful destination for leisure travel, conventions, meetings and group tours. More than 18 million visitors come to Indianapolis each year. |
