Restaurant Name: Kimson Vietnamese Restaurant
I rarely had such a good time in a restaurant before. And all of that because of my unexperience and lack of knowledge of American and Asian culture (after all it was only my second trip to the US at that time in 1993). What happened? Well, first of all I had difficulties with the menu. I didn't know the meaning of the word 'spicy' (shame on me!!!). So I asked the waiter, a super-friendly, elderly Vietnamese gentlemen. He tried to explain, but his English was worse than mine. We didn't understand each other at all. The whole thing ended with him repeating 'Spicy is spicy' several time. Frustrated he left my table, mumbling 'spicy is spicy' again and again. Well, I ordered the spicy dish. It tasted great and was indeed quite hot. The story continued when I ordered a bottle of beer. The waiter came back to my table with a closed bottle and started trying to take the cap off with his hand. I didn't know that things like twist off caps exist. Then the guy started sweating because he didn't have the power to open the twist off. I couldn't stop myself from smiling about the foolishness of a guy trying to open a bottle with his hand. He then made me recognize how foolish I was, that I didn't know twist-off caps. But that wasn't a solution to the closed-bottle-problem. He went to the kitchen and came back with an opener - and finally I enjoyed my beer as much as I enjoyed the whole dinner at Kimson!
