Tracking the Tour | I made it! Finally on top of the Col de Galibier! |
September 2002
Those were real action-packed holidays!
For one week I drove down to Valloire, a small village in the French Alps. My goal: To ride up the Col de Galibier, one of the mystical mountains the riders of the Tour de France climb almost every year. On the tracks of those participants of the world's most famous cycling race I made it up the mountain.
Read more in my tips and the travelogue about this fascinating and exhausting experience.
The other days I rode up another mountain (Col de Telegraphe) on my bike, I did some hiking, visited a national park and crossed some other mountain passes by car. |

Back in the French Alpes - for the Tour de France 2004.
My goal: two watch the mountain time trail at L'Alpe d'Huez and a stage at the Col de la Madelaine. And of course to ride both of these mountains on my own bicycle. I fulfilled all of those "tasks" and saw Lance Armstrong winning both stages.
More about the Tour de France stages and my own cycling experiences are included in the tips and the travelogues of this page. |

russian_yaz Thu Apr 28, 2005 12:37 UTC Hard to find, but at last, a cycling fan. Go Armstrong for the 7th! I prefer mountain biking, I have a Specialized to do my tours in Mallorca. Nice pics and tips, hope one day to see the tour as you've done and ride the same paths. | JourneyOf1 Fri Nov 5, 2004 19:59 UTC Great page for the cycling fan>>>And everyone else as well! Great pics and information, learned some things I never thought of. Yvette | dr.firas Wed Aug 4, 2004 10:54 UTC Hey Kai, your Rhone Alpes page is awesome, thanks for being in mine too :-)) | XenoHumph Tue Aug 3, 2004 15:24 UTC Finally!! A VT page on cycling & the T d F!! My husband (US) & I (F) were rooting for Lance, but I admire Ullrich too. I despise Virenque as he took drugs. Excellent picts (especially that of Lance!)! You are tough to cycle these mtns yourself! |
