LATVIA - the Baltic traditions In Latvia you can find the more traditional side and the genuine way of life of all Baltic region, anything is really modern yet. That means, here you can see how the people really is, not how is its transformation
In this country there aren’t priority to make beautiful things but useful things. For example, in Latvia it’s hard to find nice souvenirs before the summer season (in opposition to the neighbour Estonia we can find a lots of specialized souvenir’s shops).
I am sure the Latvia has just the more genuine Baltic identity as it culture and costumes has not been influenced yet by the modern life, or by a big Baltic neighbour, as in case of Finland or the Poland. It is a high price, as all the solutions are finding just based in the empiric application of traditional knowledge and a confuse concept of the modern life style. So, without external references and a strong baltic identity, all answers to the problems are possible, and everything can be considered if it works. There has not a definitive model to Latvia yet, as the latvians are resolving the urgent problems swimming according the tides. Sometimes it results in improvised solutions giving a magic atmosphere that you only find in this point of the Baltic. Anyway, the national sentiment remains strongly and it isn’t depending of any adaptations to the modern life planning. After all, there aren’t so big planning rules in this country, all is really genuine product of the latvian soul and the necessities of the moment. I think the Latvians have a little of latino-american style, about the problems and its solutions, that means: today we do what we can, tomorrow we will see... . This is the great magnetism and the real charming of Latvia. At this moment the Latvia is doing a empiric surfing between: the Baltic roots, the East culture, and the necessary adaptation to the Modern life. Anyway the traditions remain. So, in this country, the visitor can feel just the traditional way of life of the baltic people
