Welcome to Pakistan!

"A combination of misinformation and lack of knowledge about Pakistan has contributed to the fact that the country has never attracted tourists in large numbers. Many people see Pakistan as an inaccessible and even hostile place, when the truth is that there are few people more welcoming to foreigners than Pakistanis if an effort is made by the visitor to respect their precious culture and traditions." --Foreword by Imran Khan, Footprint Pakistan

This an excerpt from Imran Khan's foreword in the Footprint Pakistan guide. Couldn't have said it better myself! It's an amazingly complex, tragic, moving and beautiful country. And difficult too, but who doesn't want a challenge?

I borrowed this image from www.concordiaexpeditions.com. Thanks!
The famous Pakistani truck(s)!
I've been in Pakistan for over two years. It's a fascinating place. Pakistan, its people, its magnificantly stunning landscapes. The people of Pakistan are hospitable and I feel less threatened here than I would in, say, NYC?

My most memorable trip in Pakistan so far (there have been few due to the precarious security situation) was last Feb. when some friends and I went skiing in Swat Valley. What a weekend! But since then I've also begun trekking on the weekend, going to Natia Gali up North. Next month I'm off on a two-month trek. Maybe not K2...that's probably next on the list ;o)

Pros:"The most amazing landscape in the world"
Cons:"The legacy of colonialism's 'master/servant' divide remains..."
In A Nutshell:"Give it a chance - you won't regret it!"
