the fat oysters
Famous all over town for its seafood... located under the castle but not in the touristic part of town, so it's quite difficult to find (you have to walk through a dark parking lot to reach it). The restaurant is beautifully decorated and large, with non-smoking areas, too.
Favorite Dish: The speciality is seafood and fish - but it's also possible to find other delicacies suchas game. My fish soup that was heavenly - my husband's oysters definitely extra-large. All starters were excellent, main dishes ok but far fromwonderful. King praws were definitely overpriced.

It took us a while to choose this restaurant... simply because - although good and nice-looking, it's very much in the same line as the others in this part of town. At the end we chose it because it was the only one that had some fruits on the menu.
Favorite Dish: We came for the fruits and had strawberries with mascarpone cream... very few strawberries and very muhc mascarpone.. nto exactly what we wanted but still better than the other restaurants and cafes we had tried, which had absolutely no fruits... The pasta dishes - which we did not have - looked ok

the salmon tartar
Step into the past at tempus fugit... a nice restaurant with a 15th century interior... very nice - but even better, weather permitting, are the tables outside, in a pedestrian alley in the old town-
Favorite Dish: Really good salads: we had a simple green one with rocket salad and the most heavenly tartare of smoked salmon with creme fraiche and salmon caviar.
There's also fish, poultry and game, as well as ormal meat dishes. Pasta, too.

sushiiii
This sushi bar seems to have been around for a long time and seems to be especially liked by locals and visiting asian tourists.it serves mainly japanese food and sushi, as well as some thai specialities.
Favorite Dish: Of course the sushi was excellent - very fresh and tasty. We also tried some teriyaki dish (good) and a thai chicken and coconut soup (good, too). The sushi, however, was the real highlight.

a coffee with a heart
Inside the upside down pyramid of the slovak radio building, on the ground floor, you can find this nice and quiet cafe which serves the perfect coffee - it's also possible to have snacks and lunches, if you feel like it.
Favorite Dish: A cup of coffee with a heart, at no extra price. Not only it looked nice, but the coffee was terrific, too.

creative food
Definitely our best meal in Bratislava - Camouflage is a real gourmet restaurant in the old town - and yet not snobby. The place is quite interesting, with dim lights that change colour constantly, and with a bizarre statue of a women drinking coffee right at the entrance.
Favorite Dish: One of the highlights was the grilled salmon, with wasabi potato purée (heavenly), spinach, radish and soy - bacon vinaigrette. Very good also duck breast served with mango served with sweet potatoes purée.

chocolates
Èokoláda is a fine a café in the old town serving... chocolate, both in liquid and solid form. It's a small cosy place with a few tables outside, right before Micheal's gate. As for chocolate pieces: just go to the counter and choose whichever you fancy... even one of each.
Favorite Dish: Lemongrass chocolates were a discovery - a pleasant one... but we also liked mint chocolates... and basically every other chocolate they sell. beware when you ask for mint chocolate: it's not only the chocolate pieces, it's also a variety of their chocolate drinks... imagine our surprise when we were served three drinks. Still, it was not an effort to have the three.
