  • Surprise, surprise! It's possible to know what's going on in the world and in Syria after all! One of the local Tv stations (whose name i sadly don't remember) has short Syrian foreign news programs in several languages! I don't know about the English one, but the news in French are at 8 PM... it's basically a list of what world leaders have done and who they've met that day, but it's still better than nothing.

Local Customs: a great aleppo singer: Sabagh Fakhri

  • Sabah Fakhri is a wonderful singer that it's worth discovering. He sings the traditional qudood and muwashahat music types of Aleppo, which I discovered I really liked a lot. he's not such an obscure name as it may seem: in 1966 he was invited to perform at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm. His music is very easy to find, since he's very popular in the Middle East. A curiosity: he's also mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records for a 10 hours long concert held in Caracas, Venezuela.

Just looked at your wonderful Aleppo page to see what the Great Mosque looked like, but I see none! I guess you didn't take any because of the construction. Thanks for visiting Aleppo... you must go back, at least to see the restoration!
