  • Amman's Roman amphitheatre is downtown - and it's the most important sight in town. It's a huge theatre which once could seat 6000 people. On the amphitheatre's ground there's also 2 small but quite interesting museums: the Museum of Popular Tradition and the Folklore Museum.
Inside it's an oasis of peace: not many tourists but plenty of people sitting down and enjoying a good book

  • Another roman sight of Amman lies on Citadel Hill. From there, provided you get a sunny day (not my case) you would have wonderful view across Old City and over the Roman amphitheater. In the distance, right in front of you, theorethically, you should also be able to see the black and white Abu Darwish mosque on top of Jebel Ashrafiah.
What you could see, in every weather, are the ruins of the Temple of Hercules, the remains of the Roman walls and part of an Omayyad castle. There's also a small archaeological Museum.

  • King Hussein Mosque is the heart of downtown Amman: it's not far from the Nymphaeum, and it's where the suks and shops are found: juice stands and all sorts of vendors meet here - the area is so vibrant.
This mosque was built in Ottoman-style in 1924 on the site of an ancient mosque
