Sometimes I am glad I'm not too good at reading maps. After having stopped at the three kings monuments I made a mistake and took the wrong turn - here I saw a small stupa, then an entrance to a big building - and so I decided to go have a look. What a wonderful surprise: it was the old provincial hall which had been converted into an Art and Culture Hall. I went inside - there was an exhibit of black and white photos, with no english explanation. The photos were not too imteresting or impressive to me, but the way they had displayed them - very creative, with plenty of silk all about the exhibition halls, was truly spectacular.

doi suitep is the sacred wat of Chiang Mai: it's located about 40 minutes and 40 bahts away by shared jumbo. And once you get there you discover that your first impression is one of repulsion: stalls everywhere pushing you to buy their wares. Then you see the long sttep staircase.. your way to peace and quiet! Once you reach the top (breathless of course) it's like entering another dimension: it's a wonderful wat all shining and glittering of gold, with interesting frescos and niches with buddhas statues. It's a bit crowded but it's a quiet crowd, since Thai people come here to pray. There's also a terrace with some decent views over Chiang Mai and the surroundingcountryside. So yes, Doi Suitep is worth a half a day trip!
