When I was first looking for accomodations in Amsterdam, I was surprised that hotels are quite expensive in Amsterdam, so I started looking for a Bed & Breakfast. There are not that many B & B in Amsterdam and certainly not in the centre. After a while I found B & B Wildervanck, still more expensive than what I am used of a B & B but it was well located and close to the major attractions.
Unique Qualities: This B & B is located in a nice 17th century house along the canal, only a few steps away from a tram stop. They have two rooms, one in the basement with a separate entrance for 100 EUR and one on the groundfloor for 115 EUR. Breakfast is included and served in a lovely red dining room between 8-9.30 am (weekends between 8.30-10 am). They prefer cash payment. If you'd like to pay with creditcard, 8% is added to the price. Check-out: 11.30 am

We had the room in the basement because the other one was not free. At first, I had my doubts but afterwards I was very satisfied. Okay, you won't have the beautiful view of the canal, the room has a small window at sidewalk level, but we didn't mind as we were away all day.
Unique Qualities: The room was very nice with 2 beds, TV, small table with 2 chairs, a bookshelf with travel guides and maps of Amsterdam (very handy), a coffeemaker and drop (local candy), and even fresh flowers and an umbrella. The separate bathroom had a shower, towels and a hairdryer. I had the feeling that I was staying in a hotel room, so afterwards I didn't mind paying the 100 EUR.

ozalp Thu Jan 10, 2008 09:57 UTC Hi Helga. Thanks to your tips, I finally remembered the name of iron poles of Amsterdam. I noticed one of them in Kadikoy-Istanbul in November and I am expecting to solve the mystery someday. I really missed that beautiful city. | Luchonda Tue Dec 18, 2007 21:10 UTC Knap stukje over A'dam, objectief en door de ogen van een ervaren reiziger.
