Museum of Fine Arts
When visiting southern Antwerp you will certainly notice this imposing building, looking like a temple. It's the Museum of Fine Arts (Museum van Schone Kunsten).
The museum contains a collection of paintings from the 15th to 20th century, mainly Belgian and Dutch painters.
The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday; from 10 a.m. - 17 p.m.; on Sunday from 10 a.m. - 18 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Free entrance on the last Wednesday of the month.
Best reached by tram no. 8.
Address: Plaatsnijdersstraat 2, 2000 Antwerpen

miniatuurstad
If you are interested in the history of the city of Antwerp and you don't have the time to see the real Antwerp fully, I recommend you to visit the miniature version of Antwerp. The visit takes about one hour. You are being explained how and where Antwerp arose, about the history of 't Steen, the castle along the Scheldt and you can see miniature versions of the most important Antwerp buildings and a model of Antwerp in the beginning and now. All the buildings are very beautiful and accurate made. Even for me, who knows Antwerp well, it was very interesting to visit.
Entrance fee for adults: 6.50 EUR. They are open until 5 pm (instead of 6 pm as mentioned on their website).
Address: Hangar 15, Cockerillkaai 50, Antwerpen
Directions: On the quay next to the Scheldt

The Antwerp Zoo
The Antwerp Zoo is one of the world-famous zoos. Typical of its 19th-century origins is its siting in what is now right in the centre of the city and the architecture of the colourful animal houses. It also includes an aquarium, dolphinarium, nocturama, planetarium, natural-history museum ...
It is a great place to spend on a sunny afternoon. It has nice walking paths and green areas. You can bring your picnic or have a snack in one of the snackhouses.
Although it's a great place to visit, especially with kids, every time, I go there I have this feeling of sadness. I do have problems with some of the animals living in too small cages. I still prefer Planckendael near Mechelen, where the animals have more room.

Railway cafetaria
The cafetaria in Central Station is very beautiful. You will find it on the first floor in the corner. Have a drink in here when you need to wait for your train or at least have a look when you are touring the station. The clock in the back of the cafetaria is amazing.
Address: Koningin Astrid plein, 2018 Antwerp
Railway Station
If you didn't come by train to Antwerp and had the chance of admiring the railway station the moment you stepped out of the train, you surely should make a detour to visit it. It's a wonderful building. Not just a station but it is called a trainway cathedral. It is beautiful not only from the outside but also the inside, downstairs and upstairs. Go and see it all.
Address: Koningin Astrid plein, 2018 Antwerp
Directions: At the end of the big shopping street.
City Park
Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of green in Antwerp. So the city park is a popular place to go whenever the weather is nice. It's a big park with a pond and a playground. During the day, you will notice a lot of Jewish people here as it is close to the Jewish quarter. At night after dark, you'd better stay out of the park. It's not safe.
St. Andries Quarter
What to see in this district?
Two churches of which the St. Andries church should not be missed.
Antique shops, social houses, beautiful Art-Deco houses,
and not to be missed: a square full of beautiful graffiti.
Directions: Southwards of the city centre
Madonna statue
The Saint Andries Quarter is more an 'off the beathen path' district in Antwerp. Not many tourists go to this part of the city. It is located south of the Groenplaats (Green square) between the Nationalestraat and the Kloosterstraat.
It used to be an old workmen's neighbourhood, a district with a strongly folks character and socio-cultural live.
Directions: Southwards of the city centre
Peter the Great
This is the statue of Tsar Peter the Great of Russia. He stayed in Antwerp in 1717 to establish trade relations between the Southern Netherlands and Russia.
Address: Kloosterstraat
Directions: Southwards of the city centre
Herb Garden
The herb garden is a lovely little park full of flowers and herbs. They are all marked so you can read what it is. It's a nice place for relaxing after a long walk through the historical centre of Antwerp.
Address: Leopoldstraat 24
Directions: Close to the Bourla Theatre.
