  • A lovely park just outside the inner ring on the northeast of Hasselt. There's an outdoor swimming pool complex, recreation garden and a large pond with ducks. Walk through the park when you're heading for the Japanese Garden.

  • After walking for about 10 to 15 minutes through the Kapermolen Park, you'll reach the largest Japanese Garden in Europe. It mirrors the Japanese landscape and was laid out in 1992 with the help of the city of Itami (the Hasselt partner city in Japan), after the model of the 17th century tea gardens.

  • The garden is divided into three areas:
    1. A transition area between the Western Kapermolen park and the main authentic Japanese Garden.
    2. The main garden with ceremonial house, the tea house, water features and exceptional planting.
    3. A park with 250 Japanese cherry trees.

  • The waterfall has been inspired by the waterfall in the Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto. A distinctive feature is the horizontal and vertical pattern of the rocks used, reinforced by the arrangement of stones in the water on the foreground.

  • In the main garden you can admire this lovely ceremony house, built in typical 17th century style.

  • To the right of the river is a stone lantern. This is modelled on a lantern in the Senyn-ji temple in Kyoto, the burial place of one of the emperors.

  • A little further on there's a pabble beach. It created the atmosphere of a beach influenced by both ebb and flow.

Looks verz chique and promising from the outside. Service was bad, long waiting. uruguan steaks were shoebottom, salad was just big salade leaves no decent dressing nor creativ plate, the shrimps and chicken were overcooked, the parma discount quality.

First visit to Hasselt, but it looks like a nice place ;-)

Never heard of the place. Looks like I might have to pencil it in to my itinerary.

Hi Helga, Thanks for visiting my Colombia page :-) Somehow I missed Hasselt when I was in Belgium a few years ago, so maybe I'll have to go back again one day.
