Mechelen, City of the Moon Extinguishers

by Helga67 - last update: Jun 8, 2005

Market square and St. Rumbold's tower
M E C H E L E N is a lovely typical Flemish city , which is situated half-way between Antwerp and Brussels.

It is one of those off the beaten cities, not well-known by tourist that really deserves some attention.

It has some beautiful buildings like the St. Rumbold's Cathedral, the former Palace of Margaret of Austria, the Town Hall, and several beautiful houses and city castles. It is also a great place for shopping.

Great story on St. Rumbold's Tower. Mechelen looks just wonderful. Must visit Belgium more often, it ís just around the corner after all!

You can climb this tower, but only in spring and summer season.

Ah :-)) Mechelen - thanks for your page, Helga :-) Brings back very nice memories. I even could add a restaurant tip, if I only remembered the name... It was the white little house on your intro pic :-) Fantastic scallops they had !

Mechelen looks really great. I've to agree with you, it deserves more tourists attention. The picture of the market place is splendid. I thought it's a painting.
