Arched high over the Grand Canal, Ponte di Rialto is the most famous of the city's bridges. The bridge was constructed by Antonio di Ponte in 1591. It is in the centre of the city's old trading area and trades such as wine, coal and iron are still reflected in the nearby street names. To this day, shops are strung along this famous bridge, selling jewellery, linens and Murano glass.

This Venetian Gothic palace was given the name Ca’ d’Oro or House of Gold because the facade was once gilded, but over time it has suffered from erosion. Ca’ d’ Oro houses the Franchetti Gallery, which is dedicated to Venetian Byzantine Art.

Woody Allen - always keen to court disaster -was once rumoured to have been on the point of buying it.

croisbeauty Thu Feb 10, 2005 14:57 UTC Nice looking page, very good pics and useful infos. Unfortunately, I don't like Venice, except for Burano. | HORSCHECK Wed Oct 6, 2004 21:16 UTC Excellent Venice page. Oh well, the Campanile bells can be indeed very annoying when being up there. Ehmmm, are you sure that no pigeon was hurt when the Campanile collapsed in 1902? ;-) | Maurizioago Sat Sep 4, 2004 09:26 UTC Very useful tips about Venice! Ciao!! | Sjalen Tue Aug 17, 2004 13:57 UTC Thanks for the tip! :-) |
