  • We stayed in this 4 stars hotel on our first trip in 1994 and were very satisfied.

The hotel is built in traditional style on a white sandy beach. It is a bungalow hotel, giving the impression of an authentic Tahitian village.

Unique Qualities: The bungalow is comfortably spacious and tastefully furnished, fitted with fans, refrigerator, private bath and separate toilet. It's the only hotel in Bora Bora with a swimming pool in the lagoon.

  • The big building on the foreground is the restaurant and a swimming pool in the lagoon. On the background you can see the overwater bungalows. (Enlarge the pic to see the full panorama)

There are 32 garden bungalows, 11 beach bungalows and 21 overwater bungalows.

We had a beach bungalow. They are just as attractively decorated as the overwater bungalows and have most of the same facilities and amenities. There are two chairs and a table on the terrace and an outside faucet to wash off the sand when you come back from the beach.

    Hotel Le Maitai Polynesia
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We stayed in this hotel during our trip in 2004 and had a great time.

It's a rather new hotel which opened in 1998. They have rooms with garden or ocean view, 7 beach bungalows, 19 overwater bungalows and 10 villa suites.

The reception desk, Haere Mai Restaurant and Manuia Bar are located under one huge woven pandanus roof on one side of the street.

One the other side of the street, you will find the beach and overwater bungalows together with the Tama'a Maitai restaurant.

Unique Qualities: From the moment you arrive at the hotel, you will be welcomed by a smiling Tahitian hostess, who offers you a refreshing fruit punch cocktail and gives you all the necessary information about the hotel.

More info and pics can be found in the travelogue

  • The overwater bungalows are all built in the traditional Polynesian style, with thatched roofs and woven pandanus walls.

For our 10th wedding anniversary, we wanted something special, and I can assure you, an overwater bungalow is the best thing you can get on Bora Bora.

Although it's quite pricey, I do recommend it to every romantic soul, even if it is just for one night.

  • Tip Rating:

  • Our overwater bungalow had a ceiling fan but no air-conditioning. But as you are so close to the water, you don't really need one. The room was furnished with a king-size bed, writing desk, blackout curtains, television, mini-bar, fridge, personal safe, shower with massage nozzle, hair dryer, extension mirror and full length mirror in the bathroom and sliding glass door onto a private terrace.

  • In the room we had a glass viewing table from where you could see the fish swimming in the water below. At night, there's even a light shining underneath your bungalow, so you can see the fish.

On the terrace, there are steps providing direct access into the lagoon and a shower on the landing below the terrace.

Wow....Bora Bora. The name itself evokes exotic Pacific esacpage. Did not know that metal rings on coconut tree trunks are ant-rodent :) Great page. Cheers, SL
