This is the only accomodation available anywhere near the famous Marae Taputapuatea.

6 modern beach bungalows and 1 garden bungalow with wood shake roofs are located in a lovely tropical garden with lots of flowers.

A french woman owns the hotel and also speaks English and Spanish. She also is a very good cook.

Unique Qualities: Hotel Atiapiti also works with the Hotel Hibiscus in Tahaa, offering 4 or 6-day package plans for two people that allow you to spend 2-3 days on Tahaa and on 2-3 days on Raiatea or vice-versa.

During our tour around the island, we came to this hotel for lunch. I cannot really tell you whether it is a good hotel, but during our short stay here, we liked it and are considering to stay here whenever we come back.

Unique Qualities: Instead of big resorts, we like more little pensions with a familiar and relaxing atmosphere in a beautiful and tranquil area. That was exactly what we found here.

Pension Marie-France - Raiatea

Pension Marie-France

Pension Marie-France

It's a small family pension which is specialised in accomodations for divers.
You can rent a bungalow or stay in a dormitory (ideal for low budget travellers). There is a small swimming pool and in the evening you can have a drink in the bar or enjoy a home-made meal. They also organise some excursions.
Marie France and her family are very helpful and friendly.

Update 2004:
Marie France and her family have returned to France and the managers since April 2001 are Joe Ungaro-Alves and his wife Guylaine. They speak Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and English. Since they took over they have renovated, repainted and redecorated. It now calls Pension Tepua

Our room - Raiatea

Our room

Raiatea Pearl Resort - Our room

We stayed in a garden room. It was a big room with king-size bed and a single bed, air-conditioning, mini refrigerator, television, telephone, safety deposit box and hair dryer. We also had a nice private terrace with view on the lovely small garden and pond and the lagoon a little bit further away.

See some more pics in my travelogue.
