On a hill between Bodrum and Gumbet there are 7, since 1970, abandoned windmills. It is really a pity that the people of Bodrum don't take care of those windmills. They should be landmarks but now they are disappearing little by little. From the hill top you will have a wonderful view of the city of Bodrum and the bay of Gumbet.

The castle was built by the Knights of Rhodes in honour of St.Peter. It used to serve as a place of refugee for all Christians on the West Coast of Asia during the time of the crusades. Later when the Turks took over Bodrum it became a prison. Nowadays the castle houses the world's largest Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

The ancient city of Halikarnassos (former name for Bodrum) was surrounded by a city wall. Myndos Gate was an important part of the city wall and one of the two entrances. It was at this gate that in 333 B.C. Alexander the Great tried to enter the city. However, he and his soldiers had a hard time to enter but finally succeeded.

The amphitheatre is situated on the hillside overlooking Bodrum. The theatre consists of three different sections: a place for the audience, a place for an orchestra and the stage and can seat around 13.000 people. It was built between 330 - 30 BC. It became an open-air museum after the excavations in 1973.
