Due to its central location, Tours is ideal as starting point for your vacation in the Loire Valley. It's a bustling urban centre, with a great many restaurants, bars and cafés, and, thanks to the student population, a lively nightlife. It has a prettified and fairly animated old quarter, some good museums – of wine, crafts, stained glass and an above-average Beaux-Arts museum – and a great many fine buildings, not least of which is St Gatien's cathedral.

barryg23 Thu Dec 7, 2006 22:34 UTC I was in Tours in Summer 2000 but I have no photos and very distant memories of the trip. But your picture of Plumereau Place has triggered somwthing , it looks very familiar. | rozehill Wed Dec 31, 2003 13:21 UTC Those old houses with half timber facades almost look similar French Colonial and Tudor styles! Wonderful page Helga! | Norali Thu Oct 30, 2003 09:14 UTC I love those half-timbered facades. I saw some in La Rochelle. I knew LR was not the original place for those though. | globetrott Mon Aug 5, 2002 22:55 UTC I like these lovely houses ! |
