Visit Williamsburg and Step Back in Time 225 Years | "See a Witchcraft Trial Held at the Courthouse!" |
Williamsburg is a beautifully restored colonial town that strives to educate young and old about a time long gone. This town was the first capital of the United States, before it moved to Washington D.C. Great forefathers roamed it's streets and frequented it's pubs, and many a famous man such as Thomas Jefferson studied in the great halls of The College of William and Mary
Williamsburg is an approximately 1 mile square area, (open to foot traffic only), that has colonial buildings restored to their original beauty. There are costumed interpreters that give tours of the buildings, sell you goods, and walk the street talking with visitors apparantly unaware that they are in the 21st century.
You can by a ticket, or a pass to enjoy the town for one day, or multiple days. Additional tickets to enjoy special events like "The Govenor's Ball on the 4th of July", or a seat in an evening "Withcraft Trial" at the Courthouse are available as well. There also are ghost tours which I talk about on one of my other pages as well.
I sincerely reccommend that EVERYONE visit this town at least once in their life. A whole family can visit together and everyone will find things to enjoy. Gramps will enjoy staying at the Williamsburg Inn and playing Golf on their award winning course; and Mom and Dad could enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner in one of the colonial taverns. The kids will enjoy dressing up as children did 225 years ago and learning what kind of roles they would have played during that time while touring colonial homes and trade shops. And if they want a little excitement, there's always a waterpark, and amusement park just down the road.
Don't miss this place!!!!!! |

| | Farmers with Oxen and Carriagemen Roam the Streets At certain times of the day you can find soldiers marching down the main street playing their drums and fifes in full colonial attire; women selling their wares in the marketplace; and men pulling their loads by oxen.
Each day's program tells you which day it is in Colonial Willamsburg. One of the days we visited was in 1776 before the revolution began when the Williamsburg Magazine was going to be raided in the middle of the night by the British. (The magazine held the weapons and ammunition.)
The town tries to recreate what would be going on that day in it's conversations, marches and other events. |
Visit The Governor's Palace Maze All of the manicured grounds at Colonial Williamsburg are absolutely beautiful, and some go on for blocks.
The grounds behind the Governor's Palace include a beautiful pond, and maze made from hedges taller than a person. Trying to find your way out is a fun diversion after a day of tours. | | | The Maze at the Governor's Palace |
