City of Change | Brandenburg Gate 1945 and 2005 |
I returned to Berlin for the first time in 10 years over the weekend, with the 60th anniversary of VE Day on the Sunday. Berlin has changed a lot in 10 years, with numerous rebuilding projects having been completed. The city has been destroyed, re-built as two cities and is now reunited, but the building work is still a long way from completion. The picture of the Brandenburg Gate sums it up. As the modern-day restored Brandenburg gate occupies the top half of the shot, the bottom half is a picture of what it was like in 1945 - part of a 60th anniversary information display in front of the gate. |
