Robben Island... the prison As you know in Robben Island there is the prison where Nelson Mandela was in jail for many years. The only reason to go the island is to visit the jail cuz there is nothing else there (well, thousands of penguins swimming around). There is a boat that take you from the Tower Clock in the Waterfront. Aproximately the boats leaves every 45 minutes. The cruise take's another 45 minutes to arrive. I liked the place but it was too much touristic, you know, a big group of "tourist" and just some "travelers" all together in a bus visiting the jail and the surroundings. Inside the jail there is a guide (who was in prison as well) that explain all the history about the prison, the history about the Apartheid in South Africa, and the consequences about that. Once there you can visit also the cell where Mandela stayed. It was bloodcurdling to hear all the stories that guide explained to us. |
