The Five Islands of the Channel Islands Nat. Park

Five of Eight

Channel Islands National Park
In total there are eight channel islands in California. Only one is inhabited by civilians and that is Santa Catalina. Two are inhabited by the military at extremely low and non-interfering numbers, San Clemente Island and San Nicholas Island. The other five are Santa Barbara, Anacapa, San Miguel, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa. "With their powers combined they form the CHANNEL ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK system!" There is a ranger station on Santa Cruz, but otherwise no residents besides campers. I have personally only been to Anacapa and Santa Cruz, the two most popular.
This park is of tremendous ecological value due to its isolation. There are many forms of life that only exist here in this chain of islands, such as the island fox. It's a look at evolution on a scaled down model. One can see how an animal changes due to its environment. Note what animals you find here and see if they're one of a kind.
Enroute to Ancapa

Anacapa Island

Anacapa is basically a giant rock, for it is extremely small compared to the other islands. The only thing that classifies it as an island is that it houses vegetation. Mostly that thick flower that grows all over the sand. I believed they are called 'Ice-cicles."
Shore of Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Island

This is the largest and most popular island. It has many forests and forms of life living here, plus a ranger station. Fresh water is available for campers here and the sights and very well sheltered. More paths for walking, and a rocky beach.

Greetings from Austin. Nice VT pages and pics. How lucky for you to be in lovely Santa Barbara...I lived there a couple years and loved it. Especially enjoyed sunsets at the pier winery! Best wishes
