The city other than Lisbon, O Porto This country of nearly 10 million, is based around the capital city of Lisbon, but what about the other cities... I went to O Porto, which, with a population of 250,000, is the 2nd largest city in Portugal compared to Lisbon's hearty population of 2,600,000. The city was a port for major commerce during colonial days, to Brazil and other posessions with Lisbon. The city is situated on the north side of the Duoro River. The south side is technically another city by the name of Vila nova do Gaia, which came around only 300 years ago.... This is healthy sized city with a night life and much history. For being the poorest country in Western Europe, I'd say they're doing pretty well. |
