Name of Shop: Jewelry
What To Buy: Brazil is one of the world's largest producers of gold and the largest supplier of colored gemstones. The most abundant gems are diamonds, aquamarines, topazes, amethysts, emeralds, rubellites, and tourmalines. If you're making a large purchase, buy at shops that offer certificates of authenticity and quality. Rio offers a variety of shops. There are high fashion boutiques for the discriminating buyer, street vendors for the bargain hunter, and malls for the shopper who likes air conditioning. Besides jewellery, the most popular items for sale are artwork, summer clothing, coffee, euro-style clothing and CDs of Brazilian music. Shopping Districts Ipanema has the most fashionable shops. You will find exclusive boutiques along Rua Visconde di Piraja. Between streets Garcia D´Ávila and Anibal de Mendonça is Diamond Row. In addition to the Amsterdam Sauer Museum of Gems, you can visit the world headquarters of jewellers H. Stern, with museum and workshop tour. The concierge at your hotel can make the arrangements, and they will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel for free. Copacabana offers bookstores, souvenir shops, and better shops along Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana and adjacent streets. Try Avenida Atlântica for upscale jewelry. Babilônia Feira Hype is the trendiest and most fun shopping spot in Rio. Inspired by European street markets, this weekend-long event is held twice a month at Rio's Hippodrome, where you will find around 170 stalls.

Souvenirs from Brazil for all your friends at home

If you want to bring a souvenir from Brazil to your friends you can go and buy in the tourist-shops, maybe postcards or T-Shirts from Rio, some jewelry, stones, etc.....all the major touristic points have some things to buy..but of course this things are expensive. If you want to make a good deal, look around at the faires and markets, especially on Praca Quinze de Novembro or at Centre of Rio,...there are a lot of street vendors who offers some nice souvenirs...and you can even look up for more cheap things! Maybe you have friends, family or neighbours at home who are brazilian, ...or you liked maybe the songs you hear in the radio all night long...so the best things to make them a great pleasure (because this things are very difficult to get in other countries) are: a packet of "farofa pronta" or a "Cachaca 51" to do caipirinha... (this things you can buy in every supermarket), and also some brazilian CD's (Daniela Mercury, Axe Music, Samba, etc..) Some souvenirs, stones and international and brazilian CD's (original ones, but much cheaper than in shopping centers !!!) you can get at the street market near to the metro staion "Presidente Vargas" at Av. Pres. Vargas in the centre of Rio! To find this market you go out of the metro at “Uruguiana” and go in direction "Pres.Vargas", ..if you come out directly at the Pres.Vargas that was right way and the market should be on your right hand already..
What To Pay: Brazilian or international CD's you can buy (in original package) at this street market for 10-15 Reais, if you buy it in special CD shops you will pay around 20-30 Reais!
