Getting TO/AROUND: Transportation arriving in Rio de Janeiro:

Arriving in Rio’s International Airport „Galeao“ instead of taking a taxi to your hotel, you can take a bus from “Real Onibus LTDA” which will take you to Copacabana and Ipanema’s hotels, of course this will be a much cheaper way than a taxi…!
At the bus will be following sign:

Getting TO/AROUND: If you do not speak any portuguese it is a bit difficult to turn around alone, because there are really a lot of buses in Rio...and nobody knows exactly where they go...!
So the subway (metro) is the best way to get to Rio’s attractions, it is fast and air-conditioned, very cheap: costs about 1,47 Reais for one trip!
Rio's Metro run from 5am to 11pm daily except on Sunday.
There are two lines which cross at “Estacio-station”.
If you come from the nothern part of the city, to go to the south part (center of the city and beaches ) you have to go out there at “Estacio” from the metro, go upstairs and continue to the other line..without paying again...
and so also if you come from south part and are going to the nothern part.
You can buy single tickets (“unitario”) or buy them in packs of two or ten (duplo- that’s the two way-ticket for going and coming back).

Getting TO/AROUND: To get an idea how is the traffic in Rio de Janeiro nowadays you can go to following webpage and see actual photos of the conditions in different part of the cities:

Simply click on the map which appears at the page, for example you can click on "Zona Sul" to see some traffic cameras from the beach areas in Copacabana and Ipanema....then simply click on the little camera displayed and you will get an actual photo from the place (even it is very small).

If you just want to see if you will be stuck into a traffic jam some way you want to go while in Rio you can also click on "Boletim do Transito" and you will see if the conditions are okay or not.
